
Norton to Pay USD 185.1 million to Columbia University over Antivirus Patents

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia jury has directed NortonLifeLock Inc. to pay USD 185.1 million to Columbia University over its patent infringement. The jury found that five families of Norton’s antivirus products infringe two patented technology of Columbia University that uses emulators to monitor programs for malicious behavior. In addition, the jury also concluded that the infringement was intentional increasing the probability of award by up to three times the jury’s amount.

A Texas Court Reduces USD 1.7 million in Patent Judgement against NetScout

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas has reduced USD 1.7 million in patent infringement judgement against NetScout Systems Inc. The lawsuit was initially filed by Packet Intelligence LLC over data management technology. The revised verdict comes nearly two years after a split decision by Federal Circuit panel.

Cisco Opposes USD 2.7 billion Damages Award Against it

Cisco Systems Inc. has cited the recent The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) wipe out of an $85 million patent infringement verdict to appeal its case. Based on the verdict, Cisco is seeking to oppose USD 2.7 billion damages award against it for infringing various Centripetal Networks, Inc.’s patent. Earlier, CAFC had discarded a separate $85 million verdict against Apple, Inc. in a case involving licensing firm Wi-LAN, Inc.

CAFC Approves Google’s Mandamus Petition, Row Transferred to California

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) granted mandamus instructing Judge Alan Albright of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas to transfer Google LLC’s case. Express Mobile Inc. had filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Google in Texas. Google had requested that this case should be shifted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California as it was a convenient venue.

Triller Seeks Stay on TikTok Patent Row, Awaits PTAB’s Review

Triller, Inc. has moved to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to seek stay on the patent litigation lodged by ByteDance, Inc., along with its subsidiaries TikTok, Inc. and TikTok Pte. Ltd. Triller has filed three inter partes review (IPR) petitions in the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Triller claimed that the patent row should be put on hold until PTAB’s review of the IPR.
