UN Agency Report Suggests Fall in Chinese Patent Applications

A United Nations (UN) agency report suggests that the number of patent applications filed in the year 2019 were down by a tenth of the filing numbers in the previous year in China. The fall in the patent application numbers in China has affected the overall global patent application numbers as well. However, the decrease in the numbers may be owing to the stringent rules and regulations brought into place by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) to be able to improve the quality of the applications and weed out the ones that do not qualify.
