The Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) have disapproved most of the claims by Philips North America LLC. Fitbit Inc. had challenged the claims made by Philips regarding medical device communication patent. The board stated that those claims were evident or predicted by earlier patents. The panel found that a dozen claims in the Phillips patent at issue were not patentable. The patent is aimed to pair personal medical devices with wireless location functions so that if someone needs medical attention, health professionals are indicated. But according to the court, this is already anticipated by a patent referred to as Jacobsen.
