The Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) has accepted a review petition by Unified Patents Inc. against a patent owned by Oceana Innovations LLC. The USB electrical connector assembly patent which expired last year will undergo inter partes review.

Hamamatsu’s En Banc Appeal Rejected

An en banc appeal by Hamamatsu Photonics KK has been rejected and the company will have to transfer its foreign ‘black silicon’ technology patents to a technology start-up set up by Harvard University professors. By rejecting the petition by Hamamatsu, the full federal circuit backed an earlier order by the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC).

AMS Files Motions to Stop Rival from Challenging Previous Punitive Damages Liability

AMS Sensors USA Inc. has filed several motions with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, out of which one motion is to block rival from challenging previously found punitive damages liability of $59 million. The motion is filed by AMS against Renesas Electronics America Inc. ahead of a new damages trial over light sensors, which is set to go for trial in April.

Intel and VLSI to Fight Patent Infringement Case in Waco

Intel Corp. and VLSI Technology LLC are all set to fight their patent infringement case. The trial will begin on February 16 in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas wherein Intel will defend itself against patent infringement accusations. ITC to Begin Investigation in Complaint against Tech Companies

The US International Trade Commission (ITC) will begin investigation on the basis of a patent infringement complaint lodged by Tela Innovations Inc. The complaint asserts infringement of an integrated circuit design patent and the list of companies accused include Acer Inc., Intel Corporation, Lenovo Inc., ASUSTek Computer Inc., Micro-Star International Co. and others.

SK Hynix Pushes CAFC to Look into Patent Case Transfer Issue

Following the rejection of a case transfer petition by the US District Court for the Western District of Texas, SK Hynix Inc. has once again urged the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) to intervene by filing a mandamus petition. Hynix seeks for the CAFC to facilitate the patent infringement case transfer to the US District Court for the Central District of California. The West Texas judge had asserted in his rejection of the appeal that there is not much overlap in the patent infringement case by Netlist Inc. with the cases running in the California court, which is why it does not need to be transferred.
