After the Dusseldorf Regional Court in Germany gave an initial ruling in a patent infringement case in favour of Hanwha Q-Cells, LONGi Solar has appealed the decision and the hearing is set to be held in the month of April 2021.

Maxeon Solar Patent Escapes Invalidation Bid

Maxeon Solar Technologies Ltd. has escaped an invalidation bid for one of their patents relating to solar cell panel technology by LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. After putting the patent in question through a review, the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) rejected LONGi’s argument stating Maxeon’s patent is invalid based on prior art.

Ubiquity to Acquire Alta Devices’ IP and Assets from Utica

Enertopia Acquires Solar Energy Collector Patent

Enertopia Corporation has announced the acquisition of a patent relating to solar energy collection device having oval absorption tubes from an inventor. The acquisition will add to the company’s capabilities for using waste heat from different sources. The rights to the patent and subsequent patents derived from the parent patent will be with Enertopia and the inventor will get paid in shares on acquisition as well on milestone basis, as per the terms of the agreement.

USPTO Invalidates All Challenged Claims of Hanwha Patent

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) invalidated parts of a patent belonging to Hanwha Q Cells & Advanced Materials Corporation. The reason for invalidation given by the PTAB is that it is in fact unpatentable. Hanwha had originally filed a complaint of patent infringement for the same patent with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) against REC Group and JinkoSolar Holding Co., Ltd., which ended in ITC clearing the defendants of infringement charges.

Hanwha Responds to REC Patent Infringement Complaint

Hanwha Q Cells USA has responded to a patent infringement lawsuit brought against them by a subsidiary of China National Chemical Corp., REC Group. Hanwha states that there is no technical or legal merit to the patent held by REC, which Hanwha has been accused of infringing. The company has also expressed its plan to file for a post-grant review of the patent in suit to challenge its validity.
