KIPO to Consider AR, VR Videos’ Eligibility for IP Protection

The Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) has stated that virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) videos, images on websites, street walls and human bodies will be considered eligible for the intellectual property (IP) registration in South Korea. The revision to related laws will be applicable from Thursday.
Patent Infringement Complaint Filed against Facebook

A patent infringement complaint has been filed against Facebook Inc. and Facebook Technologies LLC at the US District Court for the Western District of Texas alleging infringement with their Oculus VR products. The plaintiffs including the licensee Gentex Corporation, licensor Indigo Technologies LLC, and patent owner Thales Visionix Inc. have asserted infringement of five of their entertainment and gaming patents.
Worlds and Linden Research Reach Settlement in Patent Infringement Lawsuit

Worlds Inc. and Linden Research, Inc. (Linden Lab) have settled their patent lawsuit. The two companies reached a settlement in the patent infringement lawsuit that Worlds had filed against Linden Lab’s ‘Second Life’ virtual reality (VR) experience under Worlds’ US Patent.

Patent Infringement Battle Involving VR Headsets Brewing at Delaware District Court

DDC Technology has filed a patent infringement lawsuit with the US District for the District of Delaware against Sanho Corporation asserting infringement of four of their patents with their virtual-reality headsets that work with smartphones. It has been stated in their complaint that DDC acquired the patents from an inventor’s company and the plaintiff seeks cash compensation for the alleged infringement.
