Pfizer and MPP Enters Licensing Agreement for COVID-19 Treatment

Pfizer Inc. and Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) have declared that they signed a voluntary license agreement for Pfizer’s COVID-19 oral antiviral treatment. The agreement will allow MPP to expedite additional production and supply of the experimental antiviral. According to the agreement between Pfizer and MPP qualified generic medicine producers globally that are given sub-licenses will be able to distribute this treatment in combination with ritonavir to 95 countries, which is approximately 53% of the world’s population.
Atlas Global and Samsung Strikes Licensing Agreement

Atlas Global Technologies, LLC, a subsidiary of Acacia Research Corporation, and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. have entered into a patent licensing agreement. Atlas Global has agreed to grant a license to Samsung for Atlas Global’s Wi-Fi 6 standard essential patents (SEPs). The agreement brought patent litigation to an end.

Koninklijke KPN N.V. (KPN) and u‑blox AG have entered into a global, non-exclusive, patent license agreement. The agreement includes the sale of u-blox’s products and services. The agreement resulted in settlement of lawsuit between both the parties. The CEO of u-blox stated “u‑blox respects the intellectual property rights of others and has always been and continues to be a willing licensee to standard essential patents (SEPs)”.
SINTX Technologies Terminates Patent License Agreement with O2TODAY

SINTX Technologies, Inc. has notified that it has terminated its Patent License Agreement with O2TODAY. SINTX manufactures equipment for advanced ceramics for medical and non-medical applications. SINTX ended the agreement owing to a delay in development and bringing the product to market by O2TODAY. However, SINTX will determine new ways to associate with O2TODAY for exploring other possible partnerships.
Mitsubishi Chemical Signed a Patent Licensing Agreement with Mitsui Chemicals

Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation has signed a biomass-based polyester patent licensing agreement with Mitsui Chemicals Inc. Biomass-based polyester is expected to encourage the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The patent is owned by Mitsubishi which is a basic patent required for business operations engaged in the manufacture or sale of this material. Mitsubishi has registered the patent in Japan, U.S., Europe, and China.
MPP and Merck Strikes Licensing Agreement for Molnupiravir

The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) and Merck & Co., Inc. known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, have signed a voluntary licensing agreement. This is to encourage affordable access to molnupiravir, an oral COVID-19 antiviral medicine treatment. Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics LP will be jointly developing molnupiravir. Under this agreement, as long as COVID-19 stays classified as a Public Health Emergency concern globally by the World Health Organization, Merck, Ridgeback, and Emory University will not receive royalties for sales of molnupiravir.
