The US Patent and Trademark Office (USTPO) has released data relating to the America Invents Act (AIA) petitions. As per the data, 10% petitions were for the biologics and pharmaceutical industries while a whopping 60% were for the electrical and computer patents.

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) reports that by the end of 2021, the patent filing numbers will be lowered only by 2% from the filing numbers in 2020. At the beginning of the year, the patent office estimated the patent filing numbers to be lowered by 4% from last year.

EPO Experienced Decline in Opposition Proceedings in 2020

Data reveals that the European Patent Office (EPO) experienced a decline in the opposition proceedings filed with the office in the year 2020. It is estimated that the dip in the filings could be because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Interestingly, life sciences patents were most opposed among the filings that were made through the year.
The U.S. Stands Second in International Patent Protection Rankings

As per the US Chamber of Commerce Global Innovation Policy Center (GIPC) report, the U.S. has placed second in the list of international rankings for patent protection among 50 world economies. A possible reason for the climb to the second place can be owed to patent policy and the reforms at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
KIPO Survey Shows Korea Leads in Patent Applications for OLED Panel Compensation Technologies

According to a survey by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), South Korea tops the list of countries to have filed applications for OLED panel compensation and correction technology patents. The data collected by the office is for the period from 2011-2020. China and Japan follow Korea in the list in which Korea applied for a total of 5384 patents (43%).
