Federal Judge Finds Patent Infringement Claim against Blackhawk Incorrect

The U.S. Magistrate Judge Roy S. Payne of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas has suggested dismissing the patent holder Alexsam Inc.’s infringement claims against Simon Property Group LP and Blackhawk Network Inc. The claims were regarding patent infringement related to debit card technology. The judge stated that several point-of-sale system changes that allegedly infringed the patents “fall outside of the scope of the asserted” patent claims.
Russian Court Forbids Sale of Samsung Phones in Wake of Patent Lawsuit

The Arbitration Court of the City of Moscow has forbidden Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. from the import and sale of 61 smartphone models in Russia. The court’s prohibition came in the wake of an ongoing patent infringement litigation filed by SQWIN SA against Samsung Pay system for the infringement of SQWIN’s electronic payment system patent. The court has listed the 61 models it has banned.

Judge Rodney Gilstrap at U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas has reassigned a debit card technology row to his fellow Texas jurist, Judge Robert Schroeder III. The patent-holding company’s case against Cigna was shifted after the company raised concerns regarding a decision in a case that relied on a ruling Gilstrap secured for a client earlier as a patent litigator.

JPMorgan Chase & Co., Micro Focus International plc and Majid Al Futtaim Group have entered the Low Carbon Patent Pledge to counter climate change. The action will make patents available freely to those who are using low carbon technologies. A total of six organizations have joined the pledge till now since the launch on Earth Day 2021 to encourage low carbon technologies and collaborative innovation.

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas judge has ordered the trial for patent row between Apple, Inc. and Fintiv, Inc. will take place in Austin in 2022. The order was laid after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) lashed out at the federal judge for the abuse of discretion on re-transfer of row to Waco. The trial was scheduled to be held on October 12.
