University of California Attacks ITC in LED Patent Suit Against GE, Ikea

University of California expressed disappointment against International Trade Commission (ITC) for clearing General Electric Company (GE), Ikea, Home Depot, Inc. and others of infringing four LED patents. UC described the decision as first of its kind patent enforcement campaign against an entire industry.

Daktronics, Inc. has appealed the Supreme Court of the U.S. (SCOTUS) for not reviewing the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit’s (CAFC) ruling that obliterated an inventor’s USD 1. 8 million infringement victory. Olaf Soot Design LLC stated that the CAFC judge inappropriately allowed the jury to settle claim construction issues. SCOTUS has asked Daktronics. to answer Olaf Soot’s argument that CAFC abuses its authority.
Jury Frees Cree from Patent Infringement Accusation

The North Carolina jury has backed with Cree, Inc., now Wolfspeed, Inc. against OptoLum, Inc. over LED lighting patents. The jury ruled in favour of Cree stating that Cree’s light bulbs does not infringe OptoLum’s two patents related to LED lighting.
CH Lighting Owes Jiaxing Super Lighting USD 14.2 Million in IP Suit

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas jury has granted USD 14.2 million in damages to Jiaxing Super Lighting Electric Appliance Co., Ltd. The jury found CH Lighting Technology Co., Ltd. , its subsidiary Shaoxing Ruising Lighting Co., Ltd. and Elliott Electric Supply, Inc. for infringing two of Jiaxing’s patents. The jury handed the win to Jiaxing and upheld the validity of its patents.
PTAB Rules Patentability of Gardening Tool in IPR Plea

In an inter partes review (IPR) by One World Technologies Inc., doing business as Techtronic Industries Power Equipment, the challenged claims of Chevron Hong Kong Limited’s patent is not unpatentable as obvious over the prior art. The Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) found that the claimed patent for a gardening tool like an electric power lawnmower is patentable and not apparent as prior patents.
High Court Rejects ENCO Systems’ bid to Revive Patent Case against DaVincia

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected the appeal of ENCO Systems Inc. to review its patent lawsuit against DaVincia LLC, which does business as Link Electronics. The court declined the low-profile bid by ENCO over patent eligibility standards stating that the patent on generating automated text captions wipe out as too abstract.
