
CAFC Transfers Netflix, Broadcom Patent Suit out of Texas to California

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) ordered the patent suit between Netflix Inc. and Broadcom Corp.’s two subsidiaries to be moved out from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas to the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. The CAFC stated that the district court had erred in disregarding possible sources of witnesses and proof in the Northern District of California.

Roku’s This Old House Accused of Infringement, Sued by SITO Mobile

SITO Mobile, Ltd. has filed patent infringement lawsuit against Roku, Inc.’s This Old House Ventures, LLC in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. SITO has accused This Old House of infringing its 12 technology related patents which enable smooth viewing of video irrespective of connection speed. SITO is seeking cash compensation for the damages.

ITC Announces Mixed Ruling to Roku over Remote-control Patent

The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has prohibited Roku, Inc. from importing some devices. ITC asserted that the Ultra streaming device and revised design of Roku’s soundbars do not infringe a patent owned by a company exclusive in universal remotes. However, the original versions of the devices by Roku do infringe the patents.

CAFC Rejects Reconsideration of PTAB Ruling by SiriusXM

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) tated that it will not reconsider its decision affirming the ruling of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). PTAB had upheld a patent challenge related to a satellite broadcasting patent that German research organization Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft Zur Forderung der angewandten Forschung e.V asserted against SiriusXM Holdings Inc. CAFC rejected SiriusXM’s request for a panel or en banc rehearing of PTAB’s denial to cancel the alleged claims.

Delaware Judge Allows Dish and Sirius to Collect Attorney Fees

A judge at the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware has ordered that Dish Network Corporation and SiriusXM Holdings Inc. be allowed to acquire attorney fees after winning a video playback patent litigation against Dragon Intellectual Property LLC. The judge stated that meriting attorney fees for the district court litigation was allowed as the Dragon’s patent lawsuits against Dish and Sirius were “exceptional.”

Valve Acquitted in Computer Game’s Patent Infringement Lawsuit

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington judge has ruled for Valve Corporation in a patent infringement lawsuit lodged by Treehouse Avatar, LLC. The court affirmed that Valve’s two video games, Ancients 2 and Team Fortress 2, did not infringe a patent concerning the collection of data related to the user’s character choices. The court’s ruling ended the lawsuit between Treehouse and Valve.
