Epistar Sues Amazon for Infringing Patents in Fire TV

Epistar Corporation sued Amazon.com Inc.in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas for infringing on twelve LED patents in Fire TV. Earlier, Amazon had refused to work out a licensing agreement to resolve the issue. According to Epistar, certain models of Amazon’s 43- and 50-inch 4-Series and Omni Series Fire TVs contain LED chips that infringe 12 of its patents.

A Texas Court Reduces USD 1.7 million in Patent Judgement against NetScout

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas has reduced USD 1.7 million in patent infringement judgement against NetScout Systems Inc. The lawsuit was initially filed by Packet Intelligence LLC over data management technology. The revised verdict comes nearly two years after a split decision by Federal Circuit panel.

Maxeon and Canadian Solar Resolve Patent Infringement Lawsuit in Japan

Solar manufacturer Maxeon Solar Technologies, Ltd. has reached a settlement agreement with Chinese-Canadian panel maker Canadian Solar related to patent infringement of shingled solar module. As per the terms of the agreement Canadian Solar has agreed to withdraw challenges to Maxeon’s patent.

ITC Agrees to Hear Patent Infringement Lawsuit between Peloton and iFIT

The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) agreed to investigate patent infringement claims registered last month by Peloton Interactive, Inc. against iFIT, Inc. The announcement came shortly after commission agreed to handle iFIT’s patent case against Peloton.

Cisco Opposes USD 2.7 billion Damages Award Against it

Cisco Systems Inc. has cited the recent The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) wipe out of an $85 million patent infringement verdict to appeal its case. Based on the verdict, Cisco is seeking to oppose USD 2.7 billion damages award against it for infringing various Centripetal Networks, Inc.’s patent. Earlier, CAFC had discarded a separate $85 million verdict against Apple, Inc. in a case involving licensing firm Wi-LAN, Inc.

CAFC Overturns Ruling against Apple and Broadcom, Orders New Trial

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) has overturned earlier ruling against Apple, Inc. and Broadcom, Inc. were they have been ordered to pay USD 1.1 billion to University of California (CalTech) for violating its patent. CalTech was successful in arguing that Broadcom’s Wi-Fi chips used in the iPhone used innovations described in its patents related to data transmission technologies. CAFC has now ordered a new trial in the case.
