WTO Meets to Discuss Waiver on Patent Rights for COVID-19 Vaccines

The council for Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) met again this week to discuss the proposal of temporarily waiving IP rights for COVID-19 vaccines and other supplies by India and South Africa. However, the meeting ended without any consensus this time too. The issue will be discussed again in the next TRIPS Council meeting scheduled to be held in June.
