The Patents Court in London has a new Judge, Richard Meade. Meade succeeds Judge Colin Birss and will also be responsible for the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC). Judge Richard has a reputation for handling some major patent disputes in the recent past.

New US IP Subcommittee Chair Announced

The US Subcommittee on Intellectual Property will have a new chair to replace Senator Thom Tillis. Senator Patrick Leahy will now take Tillis’ place as the chair. Leahy is known to be the lead author of the America Invents Act.

Drew Hirshfeld Steps in as Temporary USPTO Head

It has been announced that Patent Commissioner Drew Hirshfeld is stepping in as the temporary head of the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Hirshfeld who has been associated with the office for more than two decades in various positions, will be temporarily replacing former director of USPTO Andrei Iancu after he resigned from office earlier this week.

USPTO Appoints Chief Policy Officer and Director for International Affairs

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has announced the appointment of a new Chief Policy Officer and Director for International Affairs, Mary Critharis. Before her present appointment, Ms. Mary was serving as the acting Chief Policy Officer in place of her predecessor who was moved to another position in the office. Critharis will serve as a policy advisor to the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property. She has extensive experience in the fields of IP and Law and had been associated with the US Senate Judiciary Committee apart from serving the USPTO for more than two decades in different capacities.
