The European Patent Office (EPO) is all set to transition its virtual oral proceedings in examination to Zoom. While Zoom was used for virtual oral proceedings in oppositions, it will now be used as the medium, moving away from the usual Skype for Business.

USPTO Unveils Pilot Program to Fast-track Appeals of Rejections for COVID-19 Inventions

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has announced the launch of a pilot program aiming to fast-track appeals of rejections on applications for COVID-19 related inventions. No charge will be levied for filing a petition for an invention that has approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Oral hearings will be accelerated with the help of the pilot program and any hearing that is scheduled under the program will not be re-scheduled.
Gasoline Blending Technology Patent Dispute Set for Trial After a Long Wait

A patent dispute involving patents relating to gasoline blending technology, filed at the US District Court for the District of Delaware, is all set for an in-person trial. The patent dispute between Sunoco Partners Marketing & Terminals LP and Magellan Midstream Partners LP is expected to go to trial in June.
As part of a report published, the Boards of Appeal (BoA) for the European Patent Office (EPO) has cut down on the number of pending cases by 10.3%. The patent office has asserted that the COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to challenges for courts across the globe.
