
Online IP Conference held on the Occasion of Portugal’s EU Council Presidency

Last week, an event titled “The Intellectual Property Metamorphosis in the Digital Transition Age”, was organised by the Portuguese Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), with support from the European Commission, European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the European Patent Office (EPO), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). At the opening, António Campinos, EPO President, highlighted how innovation and IP play a major role in the fight against COVID-19 and in Europe’s economic recovery. He also emphasized the need to support businesses and inventors to enable them to bring new technologies to the market and stressed the importance of moving forward on the Unitary Patent.

USPTO Hosts First NCEAI Innovation Chat Virtually

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) hosted the first National Council for Expanding American Innovation (NCEAI) chat virtually. The chat took place between the Director of the USPTO, Andrei Iancu and the Deputy Director General for Patents and Technology Sector, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Lisa Jorgensen. The main agenda of the virtual chat was for the NCEAI to be specific in identifying needs, strategizing specific solutions and provision of tangible measurements of every solution’s application.

JPO to Co-host Judicial Symposium on IP/Tokyo 2020

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) has announced that it will be co-hosting the Judicial Symposium on Intellectual Property/Tokyo 2020 this week in conjunction with the Supreme Court, the IP High court, Ministry of Justice of Japan, the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, and the IP Lawyers Network in Japan. The online symposium will have legal experts from Japan, the US and Europe in attendance and developments and challenges in IP issues will be discussed.

First India-EU IPR Dialogue Held Virtually

The first India-EU dialogue was held virtually between the EU Commission and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The main aim of the conference was to strengthen relations with the EU and to increase cooperation for intellectual property rights. Both parties presented their initiatives in the direction of promoting and strengthening IP rights in relation to Free Trade Agreements.

Developments at the Anti-Counterfeit 2020 International Forum

The State Committee on Science and Technology (SCST) of the Republic of Belarus hosted the 8th International forum for fighting counterfeit products, the Anti-Counterfeit 2020, in Minsk. The chairman of the SCST spoke at the event about the importance of the fight against counterfeiting in encouraging innovation and also stressed on all countries putting more effort towards fighting the menace.

EPO Organizes Digital Event to Discuss AI and its Impact on IP
